Other's say it best!

Frontier Firearms, "A friendlier, more welcoming environment." ~ Trevor Putnam.*

** Yes, we understand that Trevor bad mouths Frontier now.  However, we want you to decide if Trevor was being honest when he sang our praises or is he being honest when he bad mouths us?  In other words, is Frontier all the great things Trevor said we are OR are we all the bad things he says we are? Come down to Frontier and decide for yourself.

What's that ringing in my ears?

Without ringing in your ears! by shooting at Frontier Firearms.

Over time sounds as low as 78db can cause permanent hearing loss.

The normal human threshold for pain is around 130db, and hearing loss can occur instantaneously at 120db.

Gun fire produces noise levels that peak between 140db and 170 db.

Additionally the noise from gun fire is made even more damaging at old, obsolete indoor ranges built before modern safety standards without the use of modern sound attenuation technology.

Hearing loss starts at 78db. Gun Fire =>170db
In old ranges the ears are exposed to the same noise multiple times as the gun shots echoes off of walls, floor, ceiling and the steel plates of the backstops as the bullets smash into them!

However, the owners of Frontier Firearms understand the danger posed to shooters' hearing.

That's why Frontier Firearms spent over $25,000 installing sound absorbing/dampening technology.

That's why each of our shooting lanes - walls and ceiling is equipped with specially designed, fire-resistant acoustical foam and sound attenuating ballistic rubber tiles.

Sure we could have saved money and not installed these important safety measures.  But unlike other range operators, we felt our shooter's hearing to be as precious as our own. So we spent the extra money to prevent the sound of gun fire from echoing over and over.

NRR 33 FREE!
In addition, Frontier offers each shooter the FREE use of a set of Pro Ears Ultra™ NRR 33 Ear Muffs.  The Pro Ears Ultra aren't cheap - they're the best money can buy -  but like your hearing they're worth it because they offer the best protection and highest NRR* rating (33) available in passive headsets.
(How many other ranges offer you $40 headsets to use FREE?)

The bottom line is that your hearing is not only important to your but it is important to us.

So much so we spent $25,000 up front to protect it and we continue to offer the best hearing protection available FREE of charge.

This year prevent that ringing in your ears - its a sign of serious nerve damage and permanent hearing loss, by shooting in the areas only indoor range designed to modern safety standards!

Noise levels are measured in decibels, which we write “dB”. A gun shot is rated at 149dB and, to compare, the typical office generally has a noise level of 60dB to 65dB. Noises louder than 80 decibels are dangerous and can cause immediate and permanent hearing loss. When we look at what hearing protection to buy, we need to pay close attention to the product’s NRR, or Noise Reduction Rating, which is defined as the maximum number of decibels (dB) that the hearing protector will reduce the sound level when worn. By law, all hearing protection products have to have a NRR rating. The highest NRR rating you can get is 33 NRR. Products with a 28 to 31 NRR are recommended for indoor shooting. There are two different kinds of hearing protection, ear plugs and ear muffs. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health actually recommends using both earplugs and earmuffs together when shooting. It might come as a surprise to hear that earplugs can actually offer more protection than ear muffs, because ear plugs fully block the ear canal.

The NRR is a single number rating which is required by law to be shown on the label of each hearing protector sold in the United States. The NRR is specified by 40 CFR code of Federal Regulations, Part 211, Product Noise Labeling, Subpart B - Hearing Protection Devises. It (the NRR) is independent of the noise spectrum in which it is applied.
The values of sound attenuation used for calculation of the NRR are determined in accordance with ANSI S3.19-1974, "American National Standard for the Measurement of Real-Ear Hearing Protector Attenuation and Physical Attenuation of Earmuffs." The NRR calculation assumes a pink noise with octave-band levels of 100dB. Thereafter various correction factors for C-weighting scale and A-weighting scale are introduced. The octave-band noise levels are logarithmically summed to obtain the overall sound level in dB(C) and dB(A). The NRR is computed by subtracting 3 dB from the difference between the unprotected C-weighted and the protected A-weighted levels at the ear.

Competition's Rising Star, Top Employee Raves About Frontier Firearms!

Now Trevor has taken down his post in which he attempted to disavow his words of praise about Frontier.

So once more we proudly offer Trevor Putnam's fair appraisal of Frontier Fireams!

"Atmosphere: A friendlier, more welcoming environment."
"Special orders: Frontier's distributor network and connections with reps allows us to locate even the scarcest of firearms for our customers on the spot. Frontier can satisfy requests for items quickly and easily."
"Reputation: Frontier Firearms has built a reputation for friendly, knowledgeable employees, good prices and fair trades on firearms, and a great selection. The new additional, reputation is Frontier's state-of-the-art range and the people who run it. It is unlikely any other store will ever have the widespread, word of mouth support of Frontier Firearms."
"Training:  Frontier's instructors with extensive prior experience allows us to teach defensive shooting classes that others won't offer. Frontier can sell real-world firearms training as the vital second step to firearms ownership that no others can offer."

UPDATE! EXTRA!

Competition's Rising Star, Top Employee Raves About Frontier Firearms!

Read in any context Trevor raves about Frontier....

At the time he wrote his report and up until today Frontier was very proud that Trevor Putnam had such great things to say about us (see below).

However, today we wonder if his recommendations mean anything because he is now trying to disavow his words.

While he hasn't denied writing his glowing praise of Frontier, he seems to be distancing himself from them by implying he did not mean them and only wrote them for the money.

This causes us to ask a hard question:  Is Trevor the kind of man who will say anything for money?   Will he brag on anyone who pays him even when he doesn't mean it?

We would like to think that Trevor meant his words and that he is only distancing himself from them because he is embarrassed.

Embarrassed because of the discrepancy between the good things he said before about Frontier and the bad things he has been saying since going to work down the road.

Unfortunately this raises another serious question.

If he says goods things he doesn't mean about whoever happens to be paying him at the moment can his recommendations be trusted?

If Trevor didn't mean the good things he said about Frontier does that mean the good things he is now saying about his current employer are just as meaningless?

Well all that aside, we know without a doubt that Trevor wrote the words below, read them in any context and no matter what he is now claiming it is hard to think he didn't mean them as compliments.

"We just shot today at your wonderful, new range.... the nicest staff, incredible range.  We loved the turning target system.  My family had a ball and no one coughed up black stuff for hours like last year after shooting at Coal Creek!  It is so nice to be able to shoot AND breath. Thank you, Frontier. We will be back!"  DEC 24, 2011

Other ranges don't offer you fresh air and can't stop clouds of "black dust" from clogging your lungs and nose.

A Great Time of Year - Updated Photo

What a great time of year... Yesterday our dear friend Daniel Laws' boys Joshua and Jacob came by to shoot in the range. The oldest is 13 and youngest 9.  They are so excited! They haven't had the opportunity to shoot since their Dad, Daniel died over three years ago.  Great kids... and as they do, we miss their Dad every day.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Luke 2

King James Version (KJV)

 Luke 2

1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Thomas Nast and Our Modern Santa

Thomas Nast is credited with creating our popular image of Santa Claus.  Below, we present Thomas Nast's Earliest published works of Santa Claus and Christmas Traditions. All of these illustrations appeared in Harper's Weekly newspapers in the years 1863 -1865. This is a fabulous source of information on the History of Santa Claus, and the origins of our Christmas Traditions. It can be seen that our popular image of Santa was first introduced by Nast during the Civil War. Thomas Nast's picture of Santa would continue to evolve over the years, but  it is fascinating to study these early images and spot all the Santa traditions that we still practice today.  Click on the Illustrations to be taken to large images and detailed descriptions of the Santa Claus artwork. Each original leaf pictured below is over 140 years old.

We Can't All Be SWAT

Just your gun, your wits, and your training
SWAT team members and SRT officers are awesome. They train for dangerous assignments and often use their very specialized training to save lives.  Narcotic officers are just as awesome - often risking their lives to keep illegal drugs off of our streets. Even the men and women that we casually call patrol officers perform heroic acts that most of us can only imagine.

However does law enforcement's para-military training translate to the very different circumstances and realities facing a civilian who has decided to carry a handgun for self defense?

In fact, if you don't have twenty years to train as a tactical swat team member what good does it do you - a civilian with a handgun carry permit if your instructor teaches SWAT tactics with with weapons and equipment most of which you can't own much less carry?

How does the fact that your instructor once trained with sophisticated military equipment including full body armor, thermal imaging, machine guns, night vision, tear gas launchers, flash-bang grenades, battering rams, throat mics and radios, helicopters, and even armored vehicles relate to you and the revolver or pistol tucked into your holster or purse?

How does it help when the only thing between you and an attacker is your handgun that you instructor trains men and women in full combat gear to storm buildings to dislodge a barricaded suspect.

How does it help you - a civilian with no law enforcement training that your instructor is certified to guard prisoners, patrol a beat, and conduct criminal and narcotics investigations?

Does it really matter that your instructor was a SWAT instructor or is certified in Air-Soft?

Does paying dues to a police officers' association qualify your instructor to teach you - a civilian to defend your life?

Will the fact that your instructor patrolled an industrial complex for 30 years as a security guard and special response team leader keep you safe when no one is around but the person intent on harming you?

What difference does it make to you - a civilian with a handgun carry permit that your instructor was a policeman who teaches terrorism/counter terrorism and for a few weeks a year barks and yells at police recruits at a community college?

Unless you're a drug dealer how does being a STOPS Instructor or tactical narcotics officer instructor help you - a civilian with a carry permit to survive a rape, armed robbery, or car jacking?

The fact is that after a lifetime as a police officer it is hard to see the world through a civilian eyes. The former officer often fails to understand that you probably don't want and certainly don't need need police training.

Instead you need instruction for civilians and you need practice -- practice that is as close to the real thing as possible....

That's why we built the most modern firing range in Tennessee.

That's why we founded and operate

Frontier Firearms Training Academy
Where the real world meets the classroom and range!

As the OP Clerk suggested

Watch our video.

Watch how the built in Red, White, and Blue LED strobe lights give the appearance of target movement!

See how brightly lit the target is? Yet the range is in total darkness (low light and no light training anyone?)

Notice how quickly the targets cycle.
One second you see it! The next you don't!

That's the ATS - turning, moving Active Target System

There Seem to Be Several Versions of the Real World

Their make believe version

And ours....

Train for life, Train at
Frontier Firearms Training Academy
Kingston, Tennessee

Our competition says it best...

"Why train on wobbly targets?" CCA blog Dec 15, 2011

When you can Train for the Real World at Frontier Firearms.

With two indoor shooting ranges each fully equipped with the best target system in the world, the same one used at the FBI Training Academy called ATS -  the turning, moving Active Target system, Frontier offers shooters the advantage of training against smart targets that rush, run, turn and move as well as stationary and reactive falling targets.

Unfortunately for old ranges built before shall-issue handgun permits and before instructors understood the needs of civilians preparing for self-defense carry, times have changed and shooting at stationary targets dangling from string doesn't provide the real world experience needed to develop gun fighting skills.

BEWARE of clerks, range operators, and so-called instructors who put down or argue against moving target systems for they may have only $$ in mind and not your ability to win a gun fight.

Indeed, today ALL competent firearms instructors insist their students work out and drill against both stationary AND moving targets - that is if they expect a fighting chance to live through a confrontation involving handguns.

Furthermore, despite ridiculous claims of local range clerks and "instructors"  at ranges without moving target systems, assailants in the "real world" never stand still so you can blast away at them.

Typical Equipment Carried by Officers
When it comes to modern firearms training only Frontier Firearms offers turning moving targets.

WARNING! Don't be duped into believing ex-cops make the best civilian firearms instructors.  The world of Law Enforcement and Civilian carry are miles apart. In fact, much of what policemen are taught and teach must be "unlearned" in the civilian world.

Policemen train in teams

While some police officers successfully make the transition from law enforcement to civilian training, there is no guarantee that former police officers make good civilian trainers. Dreaming up a tactical sounding corporation name gives no advantage in the field of civilian firearms training.  Barking orders and bossing around 18 year police recruits doesn't translate to the world of non-law enforcement civilian carry or training.

LE depend on firepower and superior equipment.
Once out of basic Police Academy the average officer receives very little training with firearms. Most spend one or two days a year "qualifying" with their duty firearm.  Then when allowed advanced firearms training, it's almost always spent working in teams or squads learning to overwhelm civilian "adversaries" with military weaponry and tactics. Officers are taught to use and depend up superior equipment and firepower when confronted by potentially deadly situations. They wear ballistic body armor, are in constant radio contact with backup, and utilize duty-belts and patrol cars chocked full of sophisticated and high-powered weaponry.
Civilians cannot rely upon force and teamwork

Moreover, policemen, unlike civilians have the full force and weight of the Government behind them. As a result they can and often do draw their weapons whenever they feel a threat or report of a threat warrants it.  Whereas a civilian would go to jail for doing the same.

The simple truth is that policemen do a job that requires unique training and skills that too often have little application for non-law enforcement personnel.  Policemen are trained to operate under completely different set of rules than the ones a civilian must live by.
How many civilians get one of these?

Unlike law enforcement officers a civilian has only his or her handgun, wits and training to depend upon.

No tanks, no back-up!
For civilians it's "one on one"

Just your gun, your wits and training

Finally Frontier does not use fly-by-night sub-contractors who chase the big dollars and bounce around from one training academy. At Frontier our instructors of still understand and how Integrity and Honor. Unlike a few "instructors" being touted by other range operators, Frontier's instructors keep the commitments and promises they make.

For training you can use on the streets, home, or office come to Frontier Firearms - the only Academy in the Knoxville area with facilities and programs built from the ground up to train civilians in self-defense with firearms.
